前出の長岡京アートプロジェクト　( https://matic.jp.net/works/popup-event/京都・長岡京art-festival/ )にて制作を共にした、京都の左官職人・三谷涼氏との共同作品。

長岡京市役所建て替えの際に掘り起こされた土を色で分類し、保管してもらっており、版築という左官の技術で作品を制作した。版築は、古代建築技術のひとつで、型枠を作り、土を用いて強くひたすら突き固める方法。その建築技術を応用している。土の種類は10色を超え、さらにふるいにかけ荒さを分類。一から型を作り新たな形状を創造するのではなく、レディメイドのものを使用しその形にも意味を持たせました。今回は、市役所の古道具、北野八幡宮の骨董市で出会った花瓶を型枠にし、火を使って土を焼き締める陶器を型に、水を用いて土を固める左官技術で作品を制作。作品の完成形だけではなく、既製品を用いて新たなものに昇華していくその過程、プロセスも作品の一部であると考え、その経過や破片なども重要なピースである。ものが溢れ、多様化した現代。クラフトという意味を今一度考えた時に、作り手として、何を作るかということだけではなく、どういった方法論で作るか、時に誰と作るか、ということが、この時代においては重要な要素であると考え、制作に取り組んだ。

 

A collaborative work with Mr. Ryo Mitani, a plasterer in Kyoto, with whom we worked on the Nagaokakyo Art Project https://matic.jp.net/works/popup-event/京都 and Nagaokakyo Art Festival/ mentioned above. The soil dug up during the reconstruction of the Nagaokakyo City Hall was classified according to color and stored in the city. HANZUKURI is one of the ancient architectural techniques, in which a formwork is made and hardened with soil. The artist applied this architectural technique to this work. The soil was sifted and classified according to its roughness. Instead of creating a new shape by making a mold from scratch, we used readymade ones and gave meaning to their shapes. For this project, he used old tools from the city hall and a vase he found at an antique market at Kitano Hachiman-gu Shrine as a mold, fired clay using fire as a mold, and plastering technique to harden the clay using water. He considers not only the finished work but also the process of taking an existing product and sublimating it into something new to be a part of the work, and the process and fragments are important pieces of the work. In today’s age of overflowing and diversified objects, we need to reconsider the meaning of craft. When considering the meaning of “craft” once again, I thought that, as a creator, not only what I make, but also how I make it, and sometimes with whom I make it, are important factors in this age.
