毎年11月に鹿児島県内の店舗で開催されるデザインイベント「ASH」への参加

Participation in the design event ASH, held every November at shops in Kagoshima.

鹿児島で桜島の火山灰を釉薬に混ぜ込んだ器などを作陶するONE KILN とのコラボレーションワーク。石膏型を使用して作られる器。その形状をほぼ生かしたまま、新たな作品を作ることができないかという模索から始まった。ONE KILNがブランドとしてスタート以来、ことあるたびにアトリエへ訪れていたが、そのたびにアトリエ内にある器や試作などをトーテムポールのように積み上げることを無意識に行なっていた。そんな甲斐があってか、今回も器を積み上げて違う造形物を作る、そしてそれが光ったらいいなという着想から、このLIGHT HOUSEという灯台にも似た照明器具の制作に取り組むこととなった。

Collaborative work with ONE KILN, which produces ceramics in Kagoshima, including vessels with Sakurajima volcanic ash mixed into the glaze. The vessels are made using plaster moulds. Since ONE KILN started as a brand, I have visited their atelier every now and then, and each time I visit, I unconsciously pile up the vessels and prototypes in the atelier like a totem pole. This time, I decided to create this LIGHT HOUSE, a lighting fixture similar to a lighthouse, based on the idea of piling up vessels to create different forms and having them light up.

それに合う照明器具を特注で制作。シェードなる皿の深さにより光の広がる角度が変化したり、釉薬の艶具合で光の反射が変わるため、調光付きの仕様を採用した。

A light fixture was custom-made to match it. The angle at which the light spreads varies according to the depth of the dish that serves as the shade, and the reflection of the light varies according to the gloss of the glaze, so a dimmer specification was adopted.

展示はONE KILNのアトリエ内の展示スペース。仕事することと生活することがうまく同居するONE KILNのアトリエ。子供も作業に加わりながら、計画的、かつ即興的な設置が始まる。過去に制作したタイルやテストピースなどもディスプレイに使用し、その場でしか作ることのできない空気を作っていく。

The exhibition is in the exhibition space in ONE KILN’s studio. The ONE KILN studio is a place where working and living are successfully coexisting. The installation begins in a planned and improvised manner, with children joining in the work. Tiles and test pieces produced in the past are also used for the display, creating an atmosphere that can only be created on the spot.
