新たにリニューアルオープンした、Cosme Kitchen BEAUTYのshop内ディスプレイツールの制作。ブランドにて使用していたリニューアル前の紙袋や化粧品類のテスターの空き瓶など、ブランドで発生する素材を捨てずにいつかの何かのために保管しており、そのマテリアルに着目し、制作を行った。
Creation of display tools for the newly reopened Cosme Kitchen BEAUTY shop. We focused on the materials that the brand had been using, such as pre-renewal paper bags and empty tester bottles for cosmetics, which were not thrown away, but kept for something someday.
また、Ateliermaticが作品制作のためにストックしている一枚板天板に使用された端材木材も活用し、全体のバランスを整える一役となった。
Scrap wood used for the single-panel tops that Ateliermatic stocks for the production of the work was also utilized, and played a role in balancing the whole.
紙袋を粉砕し再成形するパルプモールドのような方法を採用し、新店舗に合うよう着色剤を入れて雰囲気を変えた。もう一つはテスターとして使用された空き瓶を粉砕し、固めてから研ぎ出すテラゾーの手法。どちらも古くから活用されている手法ではあるが今回はその制作をストレートに行った。
A pulp mold-like method was used, in which paper bags are crushed and re-molded, and colorants were added to change the atmosphere to match the new store. The other is the terrazzo method, in which empty bottles used as testers are crushed, hardened, and then ground. Both methods have been utilized for a long time, but this time the production was straightforward.
紙漉きやパルプモールドと違って、塊の質量で表現をしたかったため、なかなか乾燥に時間がかかり、どう効率よく作ることができるか、試行錯誤の中での制作であった。粉砕する細かさを意図的に変えることで、仕上がりの表情や色の抜け方も変化していく様は、考えればわかることだが改めて素材感を表現するには重要な工程であると再確認。
Unlike papermaking and pulp molding, we wanted to express the mass of the lumps, so it took a long time to dry, and it was a process of trial and error to find the most efficient way to make the product. By intentionally changing the fineness of the pulverization, the finished product’s expression and the way the colors are removed also change, which is something that is easy to understand if you think about it.
粉砕のガラスを閉じ込めたプレート。一般的にも廃ガラスは古くから再生素材として使用されているが、それはおそらく機械で粉砕しているので均一な割れ方をしている。今回は何のガラスだったのか伝わるように、細かく割りすぎないようにし、そして丁寧に配置を行なっていった。
A plate that confines the glass of grinding. Waste glass has long been used as a recycled material, but it is probably crushed by a machine so that it is broken uniformly. In this case, the glass was not broken too finely so as to convey what kind of glass it was, and it was carefully placed.
紙を溶かし、また成形し直すと言った常々興味のあった手法を使用して、ブランドで発生したマテリアルを支給いただき、独自の表現を提供できたことは良いことであった。その反面、マテリアルを再び違った形状にしていくことで発生するエネルギーや手間など、自身で実験的に制作したからこそわかるデメリットも少なからず感じた。こういった課題に対しどう向き合っていくか、どう継続していくかはとても重要なことであると思うし、そこまで気にしなくていいことでもあるとも感じる。そんな、全体のバランスを理解した上で、関わる人のマインドが満たされるのであればそれはとても良い「制作」なのだと思う。
It was a good thing that the brand provided us with materials generated by the brand using a method that we had always been interested in, namely, re-shaping paper, and that allowed us to offer a unique expression. On the other hand, there were also many disadvantages that we could see only because we experimented with the materials ourselves, such as the energy and time required to re-form the material into a different shape. I think it is a very good project if it satisfies the mindsets of those involved with an understanding of how to face these issues, how to continue, and the overall balance.
