Possibilities from small garden
Possibilities from small garden
Atelier matic will participate in 3daysofdesign under the theme “Possibilities from a Small Garden.” This time, we focused on materials that are close to us and often found in everyday life, such as gardens and ateliers. We created works using familiar resources: Akiu stone laid in the garden, pruned branches, tree bark, rubble from the soil, and a newly developed material made by solidifying sawdust from woodworking. These materials are transformed into small boxes designed to hold plant seeds. We invite you to explore the possibilities that begin from here.
After years of asking whether it was possible to make a lump without using cement or resin, the idea of solidifying sawdust was arrived at. After repeated experiments, the shape was finally achieved by mixing sawdust with natural powder so that it could retain its solid form.
Akiu stone has been used in the creation of artworks for the past few years. He first became aware of this material when he was building a garden and started using it by laying it as an approach to the garden. He then produced test pieces such as umbrella stands and lighting, and also organised an exhibition to promote Akiu stone, which is becoming a declining industry. This time, too, he used such Akiu stone in combination with maple timber to create a seed case. Stone is fine on its own, but it can look even better when it is combined with other materials.
And rubble and concrete debris from digging in the soil. Until now, they had been found and disposed of, but they realised that these could also be used as materials and collected them. The lid was made from a combination of such rubble, pruning branches and work debris from the production of the artwork.
We hope that this project will be a catalyst and spread to many other things.
